Affordable housing for older single people, these modern, single storey homes are designed for independent living. Their external appearance is Victorian, but internally they have been completely updated, providing in particular central heating, a fully appointed bathroom with shower and a small but well fitted modern kitchen.  Delightfully, some appropriate original features have been retained to enhance these little houses.

The fourteen bedehouses are in two terraces linked by a walkway.

One house (no 9) has been converted into a communal centre with a lounge for social gatherings for residents who wish to join in the community life.  No 9 also has a kitchen and the residents' laundry.

The lovely grounds, easily accessible to all residents, include a well established garden and the house of the resident Warden.

St Annes Bedehouses is located in the uphill area of the city, 15 minutes walk from the Cathedral, the Castle and Bailgate area, the latter providing access to the usual necessary shops.  There are bus stops nearby.

The founder of St Annes Bedehouses, Revd RW Sibthorpe, was an altruistic and generous Lincolnshire Victorian Clergyman.  To this day his wishes guide the Trustees of the Charity which runs St Annes.

The bedeshouses were designed in 1847 by AWN Pugin (the architect responsible for many Gothic Revival buildings, including the interior design of the Houses of Parliament.)  They were built by G Myers between 1853 and 1854, together with the adjoining chapel whose architect was another member of the same movement, W Butterfield.  The houses and the Chapel are Grade ll listed buildings.
